Patrick Yashar, Director of Golf

Q: Due to supply issues, what sort of volume did you purchase for 2022?

A: We kept a similar volume to 2021 with most of our buy, but with some things like balls, we added 10-15 per cent to be safe.

Q: Will any leftover merchandise/equipment affect buying for 2023?

A: We always evaluate what brands do well and which ones don’t and make decisions for the next season based on sales. If a brand is selling well, we will obviously continue to stock it in the shop. If it doesn’t, we try to understand why and make a decision to bring it in again based on that.

Q: How has the pandemic affected/altered the way you’ve done business in the pro shop?

A: No drastic alterations as a result of COVID. One of the main things we have changed is having earlier delivery dates on our spring product. So, instead of asking for product to be delivered on April 1, for example, we have asked for it on March 1 or earlier. This has helped ensure we mitigate any potential delays.

Q: How have sales been the past couple of years, since COVID became a thing?

A: COVID hasn’t had as big of an impact as it could have. Certainly, delays in manufacturing and product delivery have caused issues, but overall sales have not taken any significant dips or downturns as a result of COVID.

Q: Has it changed your mindset in terms of what you sell?

A: No.

Q: Any particular brands of equipment (drivers, fairway woods, hybrids, irons, wedges putters) that sell well? Why?

A: We are fortunate to have a master fitter on staff, so we do well with equipment sales throughout each of the four major brands (Callaway, Ping, TaylorMade, Titleist), as well as doing some increased business with XXIO and PXG.

Q: Men’s clothing?

A: The most popular brands are Peter Millar, Johnnie-O and FootJoy.

Q: Women’s clothing?

A: RLX and adidas.

Q: Golf shoes?

A: We stock FootJoy, Ecco, adidas and G/Fore for both men and women.

Q: Golf balls?

A: The most popular ball is ProV1 and ProV1x. We have great success on the value side with Callaway Supersoft.

Q: Hats and golf bags?

A: We have great sales with Ping and Titleist bags. They are quality bags and always offer a great selection of colours, not to mention the in-house embroidery the companies provide always turn out well. Our most popular brand of hat is Levelwear; they offer a great selection of logo/design.

Q: Miscellaneous or impulse items?

A: Not really. I find those are dependent on the club rather than the product. Some clubs do really well with accessories, and some don’t.
