Rethink the winter season

By: Geoff Tait

During the winter season, it has been great seeing many of you getting creative to keep the revenue flowing in while the snow flies. Over the past couple of seasons, we have noticed more and more of you are ordering throughout the winter, which is awesome for both of us.

Who says the fun has to end when the actual course closes? Simulators, special event nights, Christmas parties, Sunday brunches, and beer fests, just to name a few, are some of the things we are hearing about and even getting involved in at some clubs.

We love it!  We are all looking for something to do over the dark winter season so why not make the club a special place to go to and get rid of those winter blues?

While we know many of you don’t have room for simulators, and that’s okay, as there are lots of other things you can do. I always say golf clubs should think of themselves as not just golf but as a restaurant, pub or bar that people would love to come to all year round.

We have seen many courses rethink the winter season, and instead of closing the doors, they open them to everyone to get members and guests excited to come and eat at their place for year-round revenue when golf is not going on.

We get it that it might take a while to build up a reputation of delicious year-round dining, but if you do it right everyone will want to come instead of going to the local Boston Pizza. Plus, you are serving Triple Bogey and they aren’t!

On top of having a nice winter menu, why not get your staff involved and put your heads together and throw some fun themed nights: Taco Tuesday, Build Your Own Pizzas, Triple Bogey Thursdays (of course), beer and wine sampling and pairing nights, and for sure, don’t forget the good old Sunday brunches. People are dying for something to do in the winter.  When I was a kid the St. Thomas Golf and Country Club brunch always hit the spot in the winters.

Lastly, I want to thank everyone for such an amazing 2018. When I first started this business five years ago when Quagmire Golf fell to its knees, most of my friends and family thought I was crazy. People could not imagine us going up against the big boys in the beer business, but with your help, support and friendships, we have become the number one, or number two beer, at so many of your courses.

With Triple Bogey Light coming out next spring we hope we are number one AND number two at your course with a new full flavoured light option.

Thank you all for a great season and we hope we can continue to add new accounts and make new friends on top of all the wonderful relationships we already have out there. We could not do it without you.  You are a big part of this dream coming true. #BetterHitAnother
