Kelowna golf pros play 188 holes in 15 hours to raise money for ALS

Not even storms could stop Lee Alarie and Jason Jurimae’s annual golfathon.

Alarie and Jurimae played 188 holes in 15 hours and that total could have been a lot higher if it wasn’t for six hours of storm delays.

The local golf pros hit the links at Gallagher’s Canyon Golf Club shortly after 5 a.m. on June 27 in an effort to raise awareness and money for ALS.

“This is mine and Jason’s sixth year doing the golfathon together,” said Lee Alarie, director of golf at Gallagher’s Canyon.

“We are pleased and honoured to participate in the Golfathon for ALS. Thank you to the members of Gallagher’s Canyon for their donations and continued support.”

Throughout the day, there were three lightning storms that passed over the golf course, forcing the duo to pause their progress multiple times.

Around 4:20 p.m., there was a significant hail storm that forced the golfers to take cover.

They called it a day at 8:10 p.m., just 25 minutes after lightning struck 100 yards from where they were standing on the course.

“Fingers crossed for better weather next year,” said Alarie.
