An investigation is underway to determine the cause of a fire that gutted a large storage shed at the Club at Bond Head Sept. 19, resulting in the loss of all of the course’s golf carts.

The fire at the golf course at 4085 7th Line broke out around 4:30 a.m.

The fire chief said the damage was contained to the 6,000-square-foot shed, which is a short walk away from the clubhouse on the other side of the parking lot.

“When we arrived on scene, we did find the cart storage building on fire,” said New Tecumseth Fire Chief Dan Heydon. “It was fairly well progressed and the building was pretty much fully involved on arrival.”

The course director said all of club’s golf carts, possibly as many as 200, were lost in the blaze, but they are in the process of bringing more to the property to accommodate golfers.

The cause has not been determined, but police were at the scene investigating.

Heydon said the Ontario Fire Marshal has also been notified.

As of 9:30 a.m. the clubhouse was still closed, but the course remained open to golfers willing to walk with their bags.

Hydro crews were also working at the scene to isolate power to allow the clubhouse to re-open.
