The Willows one of Saskatchewan’s premier golf courses for member play, tournaments and public play has hired Wayne Fairbairn as the new head golf professional.
Wayne is South African born and raised, playing golf at the Port Shepstone Golf Club. Wayne moved to Saskatoon in May of 1997. Shortly after moving to Canada Wayne started school at Simon Fraser University where he earned an Accounting Degree while playing on the SFU golf team. Wayne returned to Saskatchewan during the summers to work at Riverside Country Club and play amateur golf, winning the Saskatchewan Amateur in 1999 and playing on the Willingdon Cup Team in 1998 and 1999.
Wayne joined the PGA of Canada, turning professional in 2002 under Head Professional Earl Scott at Riverside Country Club. In 2006 he moved to Calgary to join the Calgary Elks Golf Lodge as an Assistant Golf Professional, becoming the Head Professional in 2009.
He has continued to play a high calibre of golf and manage a professional shop featuring both recreational and competitive teaching programs. In 2014 Wayne won the PGA of Canada Pat Fletcher Retailer of the Year award and he credits his relationships with members, staff and industry partners for his success over the years.
Wayne, his wife Jana-Lyn and their son Ewan are excited to be returning to good friends and family in Saskatoon. He is very pleased to be joining The Willows team and looks forward to meeting members and guests and providing an outstanding golf and service experience.
Wayne is a welcome addition to our Willows staff and we look forward to him bringing his passion and expertise to the Willows. Over the next few months Wayne will be busy getting adjusted to his new role and looks forward to meeting all of our members and homeowners in April when we kick-off the 2017 season.
