The winds of change are blowing through Golf Canada under new CEO Laurence Applebaum.

Karen Hewson was let go last week. Hewson had been with Golf Canada for 27 years much of it in the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame and Museum but more recently she had been charged with turning around the organizations stagnant membership numbers.

Jeff Thomson will oversee that now along with his role running the national team programs. He will also continue to be Golf Canada’s Chief Sport Officer.

A spokesman for Golf Canada also confirmed that Brent McLaughlin is no longer with the organization.

McLaughlin had been the tournament director for both the RBC Canadian Open on the PGA Tour and the CP Women’s Open on the LPGA Tour. He had been suspended by Golf Canada during the RBC Canadian Open this past summer at Glen Abbey GC in Oakville, but no reason for his suspension was ever given.

Bill Paul, Chief Championship officer for Golf Canada, is now overseeing both tournaments. A dedicated tournament director for both events will be named.

Finally, Colleen Duffy, who has been manager of translation services for 24 years, has retired.
