OFFER GOLFERS A SELECTION BASED ON WEATHER

By Geoff Tait, President of Triple Bogey Brewing Co.

With summer finally arriving, so have the golfers/beer drinkers. Even with one of the wettest and chilliest springs, we benefited from the cooler days with the introduction of our Triple Bogey Amber.

The plan was to bring it out next spring and to put the focus on light, regular, and wine, but the demand was too high to look the other way. We found it crazy that this spring the amber actually sold more than the light, but when you look at the temperatures we know why.

This brings us to our discussion for this issue: offering the golfers a selection based on the weather. With the hot summer days finally arriving we have certainly seen a great spike in Triple Bogey light sales bypassing the great selling amber in the spring.

Who doesn’t want a thirst quenching light beer in the heat of summer, and the nice warm feeling of a Guinness or Triple Bogey amber in the fall/winter. Now that we are into the 30-degree temperatures we can’t keep the light in stock and that is because people are looking to be refreshed. While our amber is very light and refreshing, people equate light beer with hot summer days and darker beer to the cold winter evenings by the fire.

I am sure many of you follow this plan, but if not, I suggest you load the cart based on the weather. Our Triple Bogey Regular is an all-time/all season brew, but on those hot summer days get that wagon loaded with lights and nice summer drinks like our Triple Bogey Vidal Blanc and some of the favourite mixed drinks that are available.

Sure, the odd golfer will ask for an IPA, but I bet he will order just one and a water afterwards. There is a reason why the big corporations sell a ton of light beer all year round and even more in the summer. Golfers look for a refreshing beverage, but most importantly they need to hydrate throughout each round.

I was asked the other day if we will ever produce red wine in a can. I revealed that we will start with a rosé first to see if we can capture the red wine aficionados, because in midsummer and with high temperatures, you don’t see too many golfers consuming red wine on the course.

However, at the start and end of the season, and on those chilly days, a fine can of red wine might just hit the spot to warm you up. For all you red wine drinkers, stay tuned and hopefully you will enjoy our rosé!

We know you have limited room in the beer cart, so be wise with what you fill it with. Now, we might be a little biased, but we think on hot summer days stock the cart full of TB lights, regulars, and Vidal Blanc, so you can hit all the thirsty men and women golfers. Then throw in a few Triple Bogey Ambers.

Who knows, maybe soon we will have a delicious thirst quenching ready-to-drink vodka, or other types of enjoyable beverages.

Enjoy the summer and see you in the fall.
