Cycling Avenue and Golf Avenue, the biggest online retailers of reconditioned bicycles and golf equipment, are preparing for a record summer season. With more than 200,000 transactions forecast in 2021 on all platforms, a 35%-increase compared to last year. While outdoor enthusiasts rediscover the pleasures of cycling and golf after a long winter marked by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Montréal company, with about 60 employees, is ready to take on the strong demand.
Since its creation in 2008, Golf Avenue has surged to world leadership in online sales of new and used golf equipment, with more than one million customers worldwide. Cycling Avenue’s growth across Canada has been just as remarkable, since its launch in 2019. Over 75,000 reconditioned sports articles are actually available on the company’s online platforms, at prices 10% to 50% lower than the equivalent in-store products.
“We are proud to offer an eco-responsible and safe solution that helps to increase access to sports and improve Quebecers’ physical and mental health. This is the right time to get your bicycles, clubs and other golf articles out of the garage to replace them with more recent and higher-performance models and let someone else enjoy them,” says Pierre-Luc Laparé, President and co-founder and the young entrepreneur behind the success of Golf Avenue and Cycling Avenue.
An optimal golf equipment selling and buying experience
In a few clicks outdoor enthusiasts can sell, trade or buy their golf clubs in the comfort of their homes. “Our team has succeeded in simplifying the entire online process so that customers can obtain a fair quote in under five minutes. Simply enter the brand, the type of club and the model. Customers can choose to be paid in cash or Golf Avenue credits. The latter entitles them to an advantageous bonus of up to 50% on the value of their golf clubs. When the time comes, our trade-in kit makes it easy for the customer to ship us their articles. Our objective is to offer our customers an optimal experience,” explains Gautier Poiret, Vice-President, Marketing and Customer Experience.
A pro from the PGA of Canada (Professional Golfers’ Association) is also available to advise customers throughout the process. Golf Avenue also works with a network of more than 350 golf courses across Canada, allowing golfers to support their local pro shop and trade-in their golf clubs towards credits to use at their store.
Always in the spirit of making this sport accessible to the greatest number of people, including experienced, intermediate and novice players, Golf Avenue intends to launch a club rental service. This alternative will provide an opportunity to discover golf without having to buy all the equipment from the start. “This is an interesting solution for golfers who want access to high-performance clubs capitalizing on the most recent technology at all times,” says Gautier Poiret, Vice-President, Marketing and Customer Experience. Through its platform, Golf Avenue also sells new accessories, clothing and shoes.
