Shareholders of the Craigowan Golf and Country Club voted almost unanimously to sell the historic Oxford County golf course, multiple sources have told The Sentinel-Review.

The meeting came after a Jan. 11 memo – Notice of Special Meeting of Shareholders Oxford Golf and Country Club – was sent to shareholders. At the meeting, shareholders were asked to “receive and consider the Report of the Directors and to vote upon the sale of the assets of ‘the club’”.

Shareholders were allowed to vote in person or via proxy if they were unable to attend. The decision allows the board of directors to proceed with a sale in the coming months in the best interests of the club, with perspective buyers submitting bids before Feb. 25, multiple sources told The Sentinel-Review,

Craigowan board of director acting president David Balfour didn’t respond to e-mails from The Sentinel-Review and declined comment when reached by phone.

“We have no comment. I told you we wouldn’t be commenting on the business of the club publicly,” Balfour said in a brief phone interview. “No comment.”

The Sentinel-Review also reached out to all members of the board of directors via e-mail, Facebook and phone. The Sentinel-Review received no response before going to press from board members Brenda McDonald, Drew Symons, Paul Green, George Hodgins or Tony Schlegel. The Sentinel-Review will update the story on our website if they respond. Acting past-president David Beatty referred all questions to club acting president David Balfour.

Since Monday, The Sentinel-Review has reached out to 25 people currently or previously associated with the club. The majority didn’t respond or declined comment.
