Award-winning Canadian golf professional Todd Keirstead is a premier golf instructor that takes pride in working with individuals to take their game to the next level. In addition to teaching golf, he is a celebrity golf entertainer, brand ambassador and motivational speaker. Todd is also the driving force behind Paragolf Canada and initiated golf teaching programs for people of all abilities regardless of the severity of their disability.
In a way to give back to the game Todd is kicking off the Louis Rafael “Kid” Corbin Golf Tournament April 29, 2023 at Port Royal Golf Club in Bermuda. He is offering free swing sessions and morning clinics for all kids.
For those who are not aware here is a little golf history. Louis Rafael ‘Kid’ Corbin, a Black Bermudian Golf Professional man who played an outsized role in breaking the color barrier in golf in Bermuda, United States and Canada in the 1930’s and 40’s.
At a time when segregation was rigidly practiced and black golfers were denied the opportunity to compete equally during the prime of their lives, Louis Rafael ‘Kid’ Corbin led the charge against segregation in golf. ‘Kid’ Corbin was widely credited with helping to change the course of history for blacks in the world of golf. Louis Raphael Corbin broke down barriers and pushed through adversity and was the first Black to play in the Canadian Open in 1939 at Riverside Country Club in New Brunswick and the 1947 Scarboro Golf and Country Club.
Todd Keirstead was born in Scarborough Ontario, where ‘Kid’ competed in 1947. Keirstead said “he is humbled and a great way to pay homage to a man whose contribution has been misunderstood and whose unorthodox advocacy helped immensely to remove the barriers of segregation within golf.
