Ben Eoin golf course, Cape Breton, NS, needs sale to survive

A Cape Breton golf course could be in danger of closing if an injunction is granted and a proposed multi-million-dollar development is not allowed to proceed.

“It (The Lakes Golf Course) would perish,” said Colleen Moore-Hayes, current board president of the course operated by Ben Eoin Golf Ltd.

Her comment came during testimony Tuesday in a Supreme Court hearing involving the course and the nearby Ski Ben Eoin operated by the Cape Breton Ski Club.

The ski hill is seeking an injunction to halt the sale of the 18-hole course to the Ben Eoin Development Group, a group of six investors who propose a four-season recreation destination featuring a golf course, ski hill, marina, cabins and a variety of other amenities.

Shareholders from the golf course voted in favour in February of selling to the property to the development group. The ski hill board of directors is seeking to be allowed to present an offer claiming it had right of first refusal of golf course lands.
