The parent company came into being in 1979 specializing in private label women’s pants.
“Within the last 10 years we decided that it would be wise to introduce our own brands to complement the private label gig and we’ve been growing ever since,” says Josh Mark, Montreal based Swing Control’s Brand Manager.
“In 2016 we reinvented Swing Control, which is our golf/lifestyle brand, and it’s been growing like crazy.”
Mark explains that initially Swing Control was a women’s only bottoms collection but has grown to include a full range of pants, skorts, capris, shorts, dresses, tops, vests, bomber jackets and more. In the spring of 2022, they added women’s tops.
This past summer they introduced a capsule collection for men. “We had had requests from our sales reps and customers and fans of the brand to fill the void in the men’s market for a fashionable, well-fitting and comfortable golf/lifestyle pant.”
They decided to do a test run last year in the United States through the PGA TOUR Superstore chain.
“It was a tremendous success. The reaction to the men’s line was great, better than we had been expecting knowing how hard the men’s category is to break into,” said Mark.
“We were pleasantly surprised so this year we introduced the men’s capsule into the North American green grass and golf specialty market and are planning on growing and expanding that category in the coming seasons.”
Mark said they’ve received a lot of positive feedback from customers.
“Our men’s waistbands stretch so they are extremely comfortable,” he explains.
“You’re getting great value with our product. The fabrics that we use aren’t specific to golf apparel or lifestyle apparel so we’re able to hit that crossover. Our customer can wear Swing Control both on and off the course.”
He said they expect by the spring of 2024 to be going with a full collection for men.
The fact Swing Control has introduced men’s lines shouldn’t worry fans of the women’s products, however.
“We will still be adding new categories to the women’s section,” he says. “That will always be our heart. That’s where it all began.”
“In fact, we are already working on adding sweaters to the women’s line for summer and fall 2023. And we’re constantly sourcing new and exciting prints and fabrics to keep us as industry trend-setters. We’re constantly dropping new products so that’s a reason to visit our website often.”
All the designing for Swing Control is done in Montreal and the majority of the production is there as well. Subsequently, golf shops ordering from them can avoid most of the shipping nightmares of product coming from Asia.
“Providing we have the fabric in-house we can turn product in 6-8 weeks instead of the 4-6 months which has been the case for some companies,” said Mark.
