The picturesque and mature Lakeview Golf Course, at its current Dixie Rd. location just north of Lakeshore Rd. since 1907, is the subject of a virtual online celebration.
Lakeview Golf Course, an Ontario Heritage Site that has hosted two Canadian Open tournaments, traces its origin back to the High Park Golf Club, an 18-hole, 50-acre course formed in 1896 in Toronto’s Swansea Township, immediately east of Mississauga. The club moved to its current location in 1907.
In 1912, the club was renamed Lakeview Golf Course, described over the years as one of Ontario’s finest courses and a southern Ontario hidden gem. It has maintained some of the finest golf conditions in the province, according to City officials.
Lakeview, they say, has remained true to the beautiful Herbert Strong-designed parkland-style course layout, featuring large sloping greens with subtle breaks that offer great challenges, and fun.
Toronto Golf Club, which opened in 1876 and is located just across the street from Lakeview, is the oldest golf club in Mississauga and third-oldest in Canada.
Mississaugua Golf Club, located on Mississauga Rd. and opened in 1906, is officially recognized as the second-oldest golf club in the city.
