Mike Weir breaks 14-year drought with 1st Champion’s win

Mike Weir earns 1st win on PGA’s senior tour

Mike Weir won the Masters in 2003 has now secured his first win on the PGA’s senior tour by holding off John Daly by two strokes for his first win since 2007. Weir was tied with John Daly going down the stretch at the Insperity Invitational in The Woodlands, Texas.

Daly, playing in the group ahead of Weir, came up a fraction short on 18 and splashed next to the bulkhead. He made double bogey for a 69 and had to settle for runner-up.

Weir, who missed birdie chances inside 10 feet on the 16th and 17th holes, watched it all unfold and knew what he had to do. He fired his approach to about 15 feet behind the hole, and pumped his fist as he walked toward the green. He wound up winning by two shots.

Weir said “It feels great. Yeah, I don’t know what to say. It feels like all the hard work I put in in these last few years is paying off.
