A new golf film about legends old Tom Morris and young Tommy Morris will be released only in threatres on April 14, 2017. Roadside Attractions, the leading distributor of independent film, will release Tommy’s Honour, a new feature film sure to set the standard for golf films, past and present. The film captures the powerfully moving true story of the challenging relationship between Old Tom Morris, played by BAFTA Scotland winner Peter Mullan (WAR HORSE, TRAINSPOTTING), and Young Tommy Morris, played by Jack Lowden (’71, DUNKIRK), whose performance has him in line for multiple globally recognized awards.
The golfing world reveres the legendary talent and accomplishments of the Morris’, the father son team who collectively ushered in the modern game of golf. PGA Tour Legend and two-time Masters Champion Ben Crenshaw states, “I hope everybody embraces this film because it is a poignant story that is so beautifully depicted.”
Tommy’s Honour will be theatrically released in approximately 32 cities on Friday, April 14, 2017, including in large markets such as Los Angeles, New York and Chicago, as well as in golf rich areas like Palm Springs, CA, Monterey, CA and Phoenix, AZ. This highly moving film has received a PG rating, making it a film the entire family can enjoy.
Roadside Attractions is releasing what is sure to become an “Instant Golf Classic.” This film delves deeply into the historic roots of the game and the souls of its pioneers, set amongst the stunning landscape of Scotland. Tommy’s Honour also stars Ophelia Lovibond (GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY) and Sam Neill (JURASSIC PARK). Pamela Martin and Kevin Cook wrote the screenplay, an adaptation from Cook’s highly acclaimed book of the same name, which won the USGA’s Herbert Warren Wind Book of the Year Award in 2007. Tommy’s Honour has received multiple awards, including the 2016 BAFTA Scotland Award for best feature film. Jack Lowden was nominated by 2016 BAFTA Scotland for his performance and the film was featured as the opening night gala film at the 2016 Edinburgh International Film Festival.
