RBC Canadian Open champion and Abbotsford golfer Nick Taylor made a special stop to the course that helped shape him.
He hosted Nick Taylor Junior Golf Day at his home course of Ledgeview Golf Club and 94 boys and girls golfers got the chance to watch Taylor tee off and ask questions.
The Yale Secondary grad does spend some of the year in Abbotsford and both his parents and his wife’s parents make their home here. The junior golf event was part of the Nick Taylor Charity Classic, which occurred on Thursday (Sept. 14) at the Cultus Lake Golf Club in Chilliwack.
Taylor has been involved with the event for several years and was a big supporter of it when it was known as the Cascades Pro-Am. Over the years it has raised money for the University of the Fraser Valley golf program, other UFV scholarships and local charities. This year’s focus was the Jumpstart program, which helps kids without the financial ability to participate in sports. Junior golf programs in the region and endowment scholarships at UFV also received some of the funds.
Wide-eyed junior golfers took a seat in front of the driving range at and allowed Taylor to hold court. He talked about his time at Ledgeview, growing with the game, winning the RBC Canadian Open and discussed tips for young golfers.
He then took questions from the kids and then the lineup for autographs began. Taylor spent over 30 minutes signing and engaging with all the kids and signing everything from golf balls to t-shirts to a forearm.
All who took part in the clinic were then allowed to play a round at Ledgeview.
Taylor has had an excellent 2022-2023, with the RBC Canadian Open win, two runner-up finishes and six top-10 finishes. He has earned $6.01 million so far this season
