Canada’s Adam Hadwin earned the 10th and final spot on the international team competing at the 2017 Presidents Cup.
The 29-year-old, who is Canada’s highest ranked male golfer, qualified for the team despite a disappointing 13th place finish at the Dell Technologies Championship on Monday.
“It’s huge to make the international team. I’ve been speaking about the Presidents Cup all week that it’s been in the forefront of my mind,” Hadwin said to reporters after his round on Monday. “I’m disappointed to not play well today, but, I came out here and did what I needed to do to qualify for the team.”
It’s Hadwin first appearance at the Presidents Cup and he’s the first Canadian to compete in the event since Mike Weir in 2009.
The Abbotsford, B.C., native is in the midst of a career year where he picked up his first PGA Tour win at the Valspar Championship in March. Hadwin also became the eighth player to shoot a 59 in PGA Tour history when he did so at the Career Builders Challenge, where he finished runner-up.
Joining Hadwin on the international team for the tournament, which is played from Sept. 28 to Oct. 1, are Hideki Matsuyama, Jason Day, Adam Scott, Louis Oosthuizen, Charl Schwartzel, Marc Leishman, Branden Grace, Jhonattan Vegas and Si Woo Kim.
